The weekend of June 15, 2001, I will be participating in a very special event in the fight against breast cancer. It is called the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day and she needs your support. As part of my participation in the walk, I must raise nearly $2,000.

Over the course of three days, I will be walking over 60 miles from Kenosha, Wisconsin to Chicago, Illinois with over 4,000 courageous individuals to raise money to fight breast cancer. The net proceeds from the event will support nonprofit breast health programs in every region of the country, and cutting-edge biomedical research on women's diseases at leading academic institutions.

So you ask why am I doing this? Because every women is at risk for breast cancer. Because one out of every nine women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Perhaps, like me, you have been profoundly and irreversibly changed by this disease. Both of my father's sisters, Aunt Ellen and Aunt Sis, lost their lives to this disease. My Granny Wanda was more fortunate in her battle as she has been cancer free for the past five years. Breast cancer has impacted both sides of my family. I often wonder if my mother, my sisters, my friends, or I will get the disease. I hope everyday none of us do. With your help we just might be able to prevent this from happening.

I'd like to invite you to be part of a team united in the fight against breast cancer. A team so committed to combating this disease that individually we will put our hearts and dollars together to push the research farther, to make prevention and education available to more women, and to one day reduce the number of people who lose the fight.
